Key West is One of Those Places.
The southernmost point in the continental United States is easily accessible by car, plane or boat, yet the tiny island at the end of US1 between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico remains remote, unique and complex. Just 90 miles north of Havana you can enjoy the timelessness of a bygone era, rich in history and romance with all the comforts of home at the Amsterdam’s Curry Mansion Inn.
Notorious as an island of contradictions this two by four mile piece of paradise has long been a port of call to pirates and poets, wreckers and writers, treasure salvors and tourists alike. It’s a wanderer’s delight – with its maze of lanes and alleys, legendary bars and world-class restaurants. The distinctive island architecture combines classic design with Bahamian sensibility and the Victorian mansions of the wreckers who came from New England and New Plymouth are here for you to discover.
Whether you choose to drive or arrive on the island by plane or ferry, you will quickly have a sense of its remoteness. Water is piped along the 150 miles and over the 42 bridges that make up the Overseas Highway, our electricity source is also on the mainland. Because of this, we have an island attitude when it comes to conservation. So, we ask you to help us protect our most precious resources by turning off the lights when you go out, not letting your bath tub run over and recycling your rum bottles.
